LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2014 Set Images

Now that I am back from being on holiday last week, we can get stuck back into the latest LEGO news and, in particular, 2014 set images. Brickset has reported that images of next year’s first wave of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes sets have been revealed in a catalogue.

I received that early 2014 consumer catalogue with December’s Australian/New Zealand LEGO Club Magazine and it does show five Marvel sets (76014 Spider-Trike vs. Electro, 76015 Doc Ock Truck Heist, 76016 Spider-Helicopter Rescue, 76017 Captain America vs. HYDRA, 76018 Hulk Lab Smash). All these sets will be released in March and April 2014.

It seems as though LEGO is starting to take a different approach with the latest Super Heroes sets (the Spider-Man ones in particular ) and focusing the sets and minifigures on the comic books rather than the current films that are being produced.

This probably is result of MEGA brands (who are the parent company of Mega Bloks) has the license for the Spider-Man movies and LEGO has the one for Ultimate Spider-Man (a comic book series running from 2000 – 2009 from which a cartoon TV series was based off).

Personally, I’m not that much of a LEGO Super Heroes fan as much as some people are, but for this wave my favourites are the Captain America and Spider-Man helicopter sets.

What is your opinion on the first wave of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2014 sets? Do you prefer the cartoonish look over minifigures and sets being based on current super hero movies? Share your thoughts on these five sets in the comments below.

LEGO Star Wars 2014 Microfighters and More Sets Revealed

After we published the LEGO Star Wars 2014 official set images, some more images were revealed. They include two more System sets (75044 Droid Tri-Fighter and 75046 Coruscant Police Gunship) and a series of six “Microfighter” sets (micro-scale models of ships or vehicles with minifigures sitting on top). Below, you can have a look at the Microfighters, courtesy of Hoth Bricks, and the two other sets, thanks to Brickshop Holland. All the Microfighters sets are priced at US$9.99.

For me, the Microfighters are pretty cute and include some okay minifigures and are definitely better than the past planet series’. The Droid Tri-Fighter doesn’t really do it for me (partly because it’s a remake of 2009’s 8086 set), but it does have some better minifigures than 8086. According to Wookieepedia, 75046 is from the Clone Wars TV episode, “To Catch A Jedi“, and the set comes with the new spring-loaded missile function.
