2013 LEGO Legends of Chima Polybags

2013 LEGO Polybag Exclusives

Over the past few months all the hype and excitement has been over the new 2013 LEGO playsets (which are out now -for most countries) and now that images & info for those regular sets have been published, I would like to shed some light of the minor sets that don’t usually get much attention. These little (and sometimes rare) sets, called “polybags”, (because they generally come in small polythene bags), are overlooked by a large portion of the LEGO fan community (even though most of them come with exclusive or rare parts and minifigures).

Today I would like to show all of the 2013 LEGO polybags that have been revealed so far…(thanks to Flickr member motayan, who published the images). Some of these small sets are already out but some others won’t become available for a few weeks or months yet. 😉

#30240 Z-95 Headhunter, #30241 Gauntlet, #30242 Republic Frigate and #30243 Umbaran MHC (Mobile Heavy Cannon)

These are all of the polybags exclusives that we know about so far. I’m sure that many more of these cute little sets will be hitting shelves this year, but since we don’t have information or pictures of them, we’ll just have to wait and see.

A lot of LEGO fans (and AFOLs -Adult Fan of LEGO) collect polybags as they are cute, small sets that are not hard to build and don’t take up too much space. One other good thing about polybags is that they are an inexpensive way of getting rare parts and figures.

The only problem with them is that they can sometimes be very hard to find -but they are generally available at LEGO brand stores, the official online LEGO shop and some stores across the world.

Free LEGO® Ewar's Acro-Fighter with a $75 purchase. Offer valid January 1-31 2013 or while supplies last.

Occasionally LEGO decides to give them out as freebies on the LEGO.com Shop -right now they are giving away #30250 Ewar’s Acro-Fighter on there if you spend $75 or more.

LEGO polybags can also be found on eBay (usually part of polybag bundle deals). This is another great way to grab some rare polybags easily.

A Korean landmark recreated as LEGO Architecture

LEGO Architecture, which uses the LEGO brick to interpret the designs of iconic architecture around the world, has added its first Asian landmark – the Gate of Exalted Ceremonies in Seoul, better known as the Sungnyemun.

Sungnyemun has stood in the heart of South Korean capital since 1398 as one of the most complete examples of Joseon Dynasty architecture. It is listed as the country’s foremost National Treasure.

“Sungnyemun survives as a symbolic marker of a lost place in time,” says the architect and designer of many of the LEGO models Adam Reed Tucker. In capturing the essence of Sungnyemun in LEGO bricks Adam looked at the aesthetics rather than engineering, especially the use of colours, patterns and materials that define the ‘spiritual DNA’ of a culture.

Construction of Sungnyemun started in 1396 and was completed two years later. Further alterations and renovations continued over the next 600 years. In 2008 the wooden structure was completely destroyed by fire and it is expected that the restoration – using traditional hand tools – will be complete at the end of 2012.

LEGO Architecture products feature well-known buildings, and the work of important architects. Aimed at inspiring future architects, engineers, designers and architecture fans around the world, the range contains a booklet featuring step-by-step building instructions prefaced by history, information and photographs of each iconic building, its design origin, its architect and its architectural features.

The LEGO 21016 Sungnyemun will be launched officially at the Danish Pavilion during the EXPO 2012 exhibition held in Yeosu, South Korea. It will be available for purchase from June 1 in LEGO brand retail stores, LEGOLAND Stores and online at http://shop.lego.com/. The product is designed for ages 12+ and includes a booklet with facts and history about Sungnyemun. Recommended retail price is $34.99 in the US and €34.99 in most European countries.
