LEGO Exclusives is a special line that targets people aged 12 and above. Exclusives (typically with more than 1000 pieces) are often available only at the LEGO Shops or at LEGO Stores and are sometimes small sets packaged in little polythene bags (or “polybags” as LEGO fans generally call them).

SDCC 2013: LEGO Exclusive Sets & First Day Happenings

SDCC 2013 First Day 3The first day of the 2013 San Diego Comic Con at the San Diego Convention Center is nearly over. LEGO has been unveiling and revealing different upcoming sets (such as a new Star Wars AT-AP walker and the two new Minecraft sets) all day in San Diego. This article aims to recap on most, if not all, of the happenings at the LEGO booth today. Masashi Togami, the creator of the BTTF DeLorean project, was seen hanging around the LEGO area with LEGO CUUSOO Comunity Manager, Tim Courtney. The BTTF DeLorean set was being sold at the LEGO booth today as well.

  • LEGO Exclusive Sets & Raffle

LEGO has already revealed the exclusive sets that they are selling at the convention (they’re the LEGO The Hobbit Micro Scale Bag End and the LEGO Star Wars JEK-14 Mini Stealth Starfighter). We don’t know what they’ll cost but, from last years ones, they’ll probably be around US$40.

SDCC 2013 First Day 1The mini-scale Bag End comes with a Bilbo Baggins minifigure and contains 130 pieces. The LEGO Star Wars JEK-14 Mini Stealth Starfighter only has 105 pieces and a JEK-14 minifigure. It appears that these box-packaged sets are mini versions of the full-size sets that have come out recently. LEGO has gone for box packaging (similar to the Minecraft sets) for these cute, little sets this year – instead of the usual tins that have been used in past years.

SDCC 2013 First Day 2We also know now how people get get hold of the LEGO Super Heroes exclusive minifigures at the event. Spider Woman was available yesterday (quantity of 350), Amazing Spider-Man figure is (or was) available today (quantity of 350), Black Suit Superman on Saturday (quantity of 200) and finally Green Arrow will be given out on Sunday with a quantity of 200.

SDCC 2013 First Day 9Everyday at 11:30AM, you can scan your badge and grab a ticket. You can scan your badge once everyday to get an exclusive minfigure. At 3:30PM, check LEGOraffle.com to find out whether you’re a winner based on your ticket number. If you are, head over to the LEGO booth and pick up your new rare minifigure.

  • LEGO Star Wars AT-AP Walker Set

LEGO unveiled this LEGO Star Wars AT-AP Walker set that is set to come out in March 2014 and contains 717 pieces. Last year LEGO revealed the Rancor Pit Star Wars set and this time the AT-AP Walker gets a makeover from its last LEGO set in 2008.

SDCC 2013 First Day 4The set itself appears include a Battle Droid Commander minifigure, as well as a regular Battle Droid, a Super Battle Droid, Commander Gree and a Wookie Warrior minifigure which could be Tarfful. This set is also different from its old 2008 counterpart in that the walker has a third leg. It will retail for US$69.99 when it comes out in March of next year.

  • LEGO Minecraft Sets

Executives from Mojang, makers of Minecraft, unveiled the two new LEGO Minecraft sets at 7pm. Both of the sets have the same box size and style as the first LEGO Minecraft set did and they should be due out in September 2014. See more information about these two new LEGO Minecraft sets in this article here.

IMG_1156LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Video Game

In one corner, attendees at the comic convention were able to play a demo version of the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes video game, which is to be released very soon. LEGO gave out a Loki keychain and a special exclusive LEGO Marvel game poster just for trying out the game at the LEGO booth.

SDCC 2013 First Day 7LEGO Master Builder Academy Level 4 Set

We’ve haven’t posted on this before, but it has been in the works. LEGO is planning on launching a Level 4 set for the popular LEGO Master Builder Academy series and theme. The fourth “level” will include steampunk-themed models and vehicles that owners of the set get to build. The first 100 Level 4 sets sold at the San Diego Comic Con this year will also receive a free signed and numbered 16″ x 20″ poster of LEGO steampunk that has been featured in multiple advertisements.

SDCC 2013 First Day 8And that’s pretty much it for the first official day of the 2013 San Diego Comic Con. The convention has its last day on the 21st (Sunday), closing at 5pm – so if you in and around San Diego then I suggest you get yourself down to the San Diego Convention Center as soon as you can. The LEGO booth’s number is #2829.

2013 LEGO Legends of Chima Polybags

2013 LEGO Polybag Exclusives

Over the past few months all the hype and excitement has been over the new 2013 LEGO playsets (which are out now -for most countries) and now that images & info for those regular sets have been published, I would like to shed some light of the minor sets that don’t usually get much attention. These little (and sometimes rare) sets, called “polybags”, (because they generally come in small polythene bags), are overlooked by a large portion of the LEGO fan community (even though most of them come with exclusive or rare parts and minifigures).

Today I would like to show all of the 2013 LEGO polybags that have been revealed so far…(thanks to Flickr member motayan, who published the images). Some of these small sets are already out but some others won’t become available for a few weeks or months yet. 😉

#30240 Z-95 Headhunter, #30241 Gauntlet, #30242 Republic Frigate and #30243 Umbaran MHC (Mobile Heavy Cannon)

These are all of the polybags exclusives that we know about so far. I’m sure that many more of these cute little sets will be hitting shelves this year, but since we don’t have information or pictures of them, we’ll just have to wait and see.

A lot of LEGO fans (and AFOLs -Adult Fan of LEGO) collect polybags as they are cute, small sets that are not hard to build and don’t take up too much space. One other good thing about polybags is that they are an inexpensive way of getting rare parts and figures.

The only problem with them is that they can sometimes be very hard to find -but they are generally available at LEGO brand stores, the official online LEGO shop and some stores across the world.

Free LEGO® Ewar's Acro-Fighter with a $75 purchase. Offer valid January 1-31 2013 or while supplies last.

Occasionally LEGO decides to give them out as freebies on the LEGO.com Shop -right now they are giving away #30250 Ewar’s Acro-Fighter on there if you spend $75 or more.

LEGO polybags can also be found on eBay (usually part of polybag bundle deals). This is another great way to grab some rare polybags easily.
